Bauhaus Brew Blog

Hey y'all! We are ECSTATIC to announce the unveiling of a unique, Southern-inspired collaboration beer with Revival restaurant – a truly special beer that will make its debut at Revival’s new US Bank Stadium location as well as their brick-and-mortar restaurants in coming weeks. The specialty brew is a pre-prohibition Kentucky Common Style Ale that goes by the name of Slawhammer.

For those of you who don't know, we pride ourselves on brewing beers that pair well with food, and Slawhammer is no exception. Brewed specifically to temper the heat of Revival’s fiery Tennessee hot chicken, Slawhammer is a bit like a cream ale but with a little more malty soulfulness; it’s an easy-drinking brew with just a touch of hoppy citrus and black tea in the finish. Clocking in at 4.8% ABV and a mild 25 IBUs, it's the perfect thirst quencher for Revival's spectacular Southern fare, and let’s be honest, these 16-oz. stunners are going to look right nice in the hands of stadium-goers.

Brewing Slawhammer brought head brewer and Bauhaus Brew Labs President Matt Schwandt back to the days he spent in the South. “When I lived in Nashville, I learned that there are really only two beverage options for Tennessee hot chicken: sweet tea or a cold beer. So we figured, why not marry those ideas?” Vice President Lydia Haines explains, “While it’s not a sweet beer, Slawhammer has that amber iced tea color and some black tea notes from the finishing hops.”

“We are thrilled about the partnership,” says Revival Co-Owner Nick Rancone. “Revival is all about tradition and modernity, and that is the same way we view Bauhaus. It's so important to align with people that you respect and adore, and share values with, and it was most excellent that this collaboration came to fruition in the way that it did. We couldn't have asked for a better partner.”

Starting August 10th, Slawhammer will be available in 16-oz. tallboy cans at the Revival US Bank Stadium location, and on draft at Revival’s brick-and-mortar locations in both Minneapolis and St. Paul and at their sister restaurant, Corner Table.

Way back in 2012 when we first sat down as a family to discuss the vision for our future brewery, we knew we wanted to do more than just brew great beer. For the past three years we've all poured every single spare moment into building the Bauhaus and we've finally reached a point where we can truly start giving back to the community. And we're thrilled as hell about it.

We are SUPER proud to announce the launch of On the Haus, a new facet of the company built to go beyond the beer and help foster a sense of belonging and kinship through outreach in the community. For the launch, we are partnering with local organization Still Kickin, a non-profit retail brand that supports a new Still Kickin Hero every month through donation-based workouts and sales of their iconic STILL KICKIN shirts and apparel items. Bauhaus will be releasing a one-time-only Still Kickin beer across the Twin Cities, with all profits going directly to the Still Kickin cause.

Bauhaus Brew Labs is built on the the uniquely German idea of gemütlichkeit - an abstract concept that can be described as a feeling of kinship, coziness, and peace of mind. On the Haus will focus on partnering with like-minded organizations to help others in unexpected and imaginative ways, further fueling the spirit of gemütlichkeit across the community. Still Kickin, and their mission to “Help a Human Out,” resonated immediately with us. Still Kickin embodies the camaraderie and togetherness that On the Haus seeks to achieve, making them the ideal launch partner.

Check out how this idea came to be between On the Haus and Still Kickin by clicking here.

The Still Kickin beer itself is a single hop Summertime Pale Ale, featuring toasty vienna malt and a beautiful bouquet of citrus and tropical fruit from five separate additions of Azacca hops, this is one well balanced summertime beer with a crisp, dry finish. By simply brewing a batch of beer, we not only get to shine a light on Still Kickin and what they do, but we have the ability to make a huge difference in people’s lives because of it, and how cool is that?

Starting Monday July 25th, the beer will be available in 16 oz cans at select bottle shops across the Twin Cities for an extremely limited time, with 100% of the profits going to Still Kickin. You can find the beer here.

With the launch of On the Haus, Bauhaus will continue to look for more organizations that embrace the spirit of gemütlichkeit. Those interested in partnering with On the Haus can apply directly by visiting

Fresh off the heels of America’s birthday, we are gearing up to throw a little birthday celebration of our own: our annual Anniversary of Awesöme party.

Saturday, July 16th, marks the second anniversary for the brewery, and we will be celebrating the occasion with a day full of music, food, games, prizes, and most importantly, BEER. Casks and unique infusions will flow at the Haus all day, and a stellar lineup of live music will provide the perfect summer grooves. Tunes will feature funky newcomers Duffel, the incredibly soulful Nooky Jones and a face-melting, rawkus set from Haus Band Viva Knievel.

We are incredibly proud to have joined the MN craft beer scene, and in celebration of what we’ve accomplished as a family over the last two years – especially the fact that we are on pace to brew over 9,000 barrels in 2016 – we did what we do best: made a colorful, hilarious video that perfectly captures their sense of family, awesomeness and gemütlichkeit.

Alchemist printing will be on hand with live screenprinting of one-day-only anniversary tees printed on ultra-classic Hypercolor t-shirts. There will also be 99 limited edition, 22 oz. take home beer steins available on a first come, first serve basis for $10 filled and $5 refills. Food provided by Tru Pizza, Brooks High Beer Battered, and MidNord Empanadas.

Attendees can expect a relaxed, fun-filled, beer-soaked day of Awesöme celebration.

Your unique summer crusher is back, Hauslers, the Belgo-Style American Pale Ale called Hairbanger.

This is a beer that bangs to the beat of its own double kick drum. Complex yet extremely drinkable on a bright, summer day, Hairbanger features toasty malts and a classic Belgian yeast amplified by big, citrusy, tropical American hops. Coming in at 5.5% ABV and 50 IBUs, it’s a Belgian that’s so insanely balanced, it makes you want to rock out with your hops out.

We’ve been very excited to bring you this year's version of our American Pale Ale. Hairbanger has all the refreshing, tropical hoppiness you’d want in a modern APA, but we’ve fermented this beer with a classic Belgian yeast strain that gives it an awesomely complex fruitiness. So really, it’s heavy metal by name only. In reality, it’s one crushable summer concert beer.

This will continue to be available in 16 oz. seasonal cans and on draft at local Twin Cities, Duluth, Rochester and Mankato liquor stores and bars/restaurants, as well as the Bauhaus taproom starting the week of June 13th.

Hairbanger, coming in at 5.5% ABV and 50 IBUs, will be available in select Twin Cities liquor stores, bars and restaurants, as well as the Bauhaus taproom. ROCK OUT WITH YOUR HOPS OUT!

None of this amazingness would be possible without the incredibly hard work of our staff, and we owe our good friends at 218 Productions, LLC everything for making it all sound and look amazing.

Huge thanks to our sponsors Down In The Valley, In The Groove Music, Copycats Media, and The Current for helping us make it all happen. Until next year!!

After months and months in the making, we've paired up with Fair State Brewing Cooperative to release our collaboration beer, Das Homeguys Helles.

Das Homeguys Helles is a classic Münich-Style Helles lager. A staple of summer in Bavaria, helles (which means "light" in German) is a malt-centric pale lager with low hop bitterness and aroma, and lower ABV. When Bauhaus and Fair State – both lager loving breweries – teamed up to brew our first collaboration beer with each other, we set out to make a straight-up, no-frills example of this Bavarian classic. Coming in at 4.6% ABV, this deliciously refreshing pale lager showcases the graham crackery maltiness of floor-malted Eastern European pilsner malt. With just a touch of traditional noble hops for balance, and a crisp, dry finish, there is some awesome complexity to this easy drinking brew. Available exclusively on draft, Homeguys Helles is what all the Hausboys will be drinking this spring!

Both of the Fair State and Bauhaus versions of Das Homeguys are on tap at their respective taprooms starting now.

This beer is so light, refreshing and drinkable, you'll be at the bottom of your glass before you know it, so get it while it lasts!
