Bauhaus Brew Blog

craft lager Posts

Starting Monday, November 9th, Northeast Minneapolis-based Bauhaus Brew Labs will be available for the first time ever in Duluth, MN. Duluth residents and visitors will find 12 ounce cans of all four “haus” beers nestled in the coolers of liquor stores all over the area and select brews will be on tap at a handful of fine establishments throughout the community.

With a focus on imaginative lager styles, Bauhaus is thrilled to be delivering their interpretations of iconic beer styles across the North Shore. Among Bauhaus’ core offerings are Wonderstuff, a hoppy czech pilsner, Stargrazer German Style Schwarzbier (black lager), and Wagon Party, a hoppy amber lager. Rounding out Bauhaus’ year-round lineup is Sky-Five!, a west-coast style IPA, with experimental hop varieties from around the globe building a flavorful, yet balanced IPA.

Bauhaus has been set on expanding into Duluth since the brewery’s opening for many reasons: it’s passionate and innovative beer community, thriving arts and music culture, and a hell of a view.

Inspired by the communal aspect of German beer halls, Bauhaus has consistently been named one of the best taprooms in Minnesota after opening in July, 2014. They are always looking to be inclusive of new and seasoned craft beer drinkers, even if they can’t visit the brewery itself. Bauhaus is happy to welcome the following fine Duluth establishments into the Bauhaus family:

Lake Aire Bottle Shoppe

Super One Liquor

Shanty Bottle Shop

University Liquors

Big Bottle Shop Liquor

Mount Royal Bottle Shoppe/Beer Cave

Located in the heart of Northeast Minneapolis’ Brew District, Bauhaus Brew Labs is a craft brewery founded in 2012 by a family of musicians, scientists, artists and above all, beer lovers. At its core, Bauhaus is about experiencing the joy of art and craft in everyday life. The brewery takes a unique look at iconic beer styles with a focus on lagers, skewed slightly by a sense of play and adventure.

Amigos! A few months ago we started hatching a plan to host a Night Market at Bauhaus during the gorgeous Minnesota summer months. Our plan was to start things out small, and help this fledgling idea take flight and grow into a bigger venue eventually. To say that the community response has exceeded our expectations is quite an understatement. We are blown away.

We've scrambled a bit and expanded our taproom and patio and built what we think will be an incredibly memorable night celebrating food, beer, and art. No, there's not quite room to accommodate all 18,000 people who have expressed interest, but we've been stretching and we are ready for you if you're coming! We only ask that if you plan to attend that you come hungry, come thirsty, and come ready to support local artists. We have food lined up from Create Dining Studio, Natedogs, Brooks High (can you say beer battered po'boys???) and Potters. Not to mention coffee from Dogwood. On top of that there will be a slew of entertainers roaming the street and artists selling everything you can imagine. This event is truly about them - supporting these crazy craftsmen by buying their art. We want you to drink beer, boogie with the belly dancers, and eat at least a dozen beignets - but above all, celebrate these artists in all of their weird and awesome glory!

Here is a littler preview of what you can expect to see - everything from wax for your 'stache, wearables for your pups, cast bronze jewelry, and paintings of Christopher Walken (obviously)! See you tomorrow night, Hauslers!

For our new summer seasonal, we wanted to dress up an American Pale Ale. Hairbanger has all the refreshing, tropical hoppiness you'd want in a modern APA, but we've fermented this beer with a classic Belgian yeast strain that gives it an awesomely complex fruitiness. It's basically the outdoor concert beer we've all been dreaming about. Available starting Wednesday June 10th in the taproom, at select draft accounts, and in 4 packs of 16 oz bombers at local bottle shops! So turn it up, raise a fist, and get down with this delicious summer seasonal.

To commemorate the official Hairbanger release on June 13th, Bauhaus will celebrate all day in the taproom and continue to rock all night with a heavy metal after party at a secret location, featuring members of the Bauhaus family and staff. To amplify the anticipation, Bauhaus teamed up with Urban Mountain to create a promo video featuring the most epic of hairbangs, inspired by everyone's favorite Belgian-American crossover, Jean Claude Van Damme.

MN Craft Beer Week is coming up, and we are thrilled to be dining with Cocina Del Barrio and a few of our favorite breweries in town for a night of collaborative cuisine and Minnesota beer. Beers from Bauhaus, Fulton, Indeed, Surly, and Summit will be paired with a dish created by a powerhaus chef from Barrio. It's going down at 6:30pm May 4, 2015 at Cocina del Barrio (5036 France Ave S., Edina, MN). Five courses for $55 (tax and gratuity not included). Space is limited, so RSVP now! Tickets can be purchased by calling Tyler Lineburg at 952.920.1860 or e-mailing tlineburg@barriorequila.com.

Here is a sneak preview at the menu from the five course meal:

Ahi Tuna Ceviche with pasilla, scallion, cucumber and lime
Chef: Bill Fairbanks - Barrio / Beer: Bauhaus Wonderstuff

Stuffed Rabbit Saddle with jicama relish, black bean and grilled spring onion

Spring arrived...and then left, but we hear its coming back soon. We have kicked off our next round of seasonal curiosities with a beer to celebrate Minnesota's impending release from winter's icy grasp. With hibernation coming to an end, we have launched a hoppy, crisp, ridiculously refreshing take on a Red Lager called Copperpop.

Copperpop (5.6% ABV and 60 IBU) is a red lager brewed with spicy rye malt and hopped up with loads of piney, resinous Columbus, Ahtanum, Rakau, Cascade and Amarillo hops. It's the X on the treasure map of hoppy lagers, and you won't have to go through One-Eyed Willy's boobie traps to find it.

Copperpop is being served on draft at the taproom and various establishments around the Twin Cities.
