Guten Tag, Hauslers!

It's a good week in the world of Bauhaus Brew Labs, as our Winterloper Baltic Porter is making its glorious return this week. And let us say, it’s a Christmas miracle because this smooth and silky brew is now available in 16 oz. tallboy cans!

Based on traditional beers from countries near the Baltic Sea, Winterloper is derived from English porters but influenced by Russian Imperial Stouts. It serves a rich blend of malt flavors expressing caramel and dried fruit with a smooth, roasty finish. A strong, jet-black lager beer that’s just as easy and refreshing to drink as any of our brews, Winterloper is truly the perfect blanket to throw on as we welcome hibernation season (8.0% ABV | 35 IBU).

These festively wrapped 16 oz. 4-packs are perfect for gift-giving and will be available at select stores throughout Minnesota and Western Wisconsin as well as on tap at fine bars and restaurants and Bauhaus' Northeast Minneapolis taproom. From our weird family to you and yours, we hope y’all are as thrilled about these new cans as we are!

Alongside the return of Winterloper, we’re kicking off the holidays with our 4th Annual Made by Hands Holiday Extra-Vaganza on Saturday, November 25th from 12pm to 6pm. Beer lovers and holiday shoppers alike can scope out unique gifts, support local artists and sip some delicious brews all at once. A heated tent will be set up on our spacious patio to allow for prime shopping and sipping.

From our weird family to yours, we hope you have a wonderful and safe Holiday season.

Guten Tag, Amigos!

It's the splendor of 70 degree weather in October that makes us incredibly happy to be in this city of ours amongst all you beautiful beer drinkers. What makes us even happier is the fact that we get share some exciting expansion news. Since opening our doors in July 2014, we have been in a constant state of expansion. Working feverishly to meet the demands of off- and on-premise retail partners as well as nurturing our crazy-busy taproom business, increasing production capacity has become second nature to us. After much planning, it's our pleasure to share the details of our latest undertaking.

Bauhaus North

Just up 35W, a new Fridley-based warehouse, unofficially dubbed “Bauhaus North,” is up and running, serving as our primary shipping, receiving and distribution point. At a voluminous 11,000 square feet (larger than our Northeast Minneapolis facility), the warehouse boasts 2,500 square feet of cold storage as well as a substantial amount of bulk raw materials storage. The warehouse also serves as homebase to the our newest (robotic) family member: a semi-automated packaging system for Bauhaus’ hot-selling 12-packs.

Bauhaus Northeast

The new Fridley warehouse is part of an even greater plan to grow the production capacity at our Northeast Minneapolis facility. By relocating a substantial amount of cold and dry storage to Bauhaus North, we're now able to add more fermentation and packaging tanks to our Minneapolis production center. Y'all sling a lot of beer. Current production capacity is around 13,000 barrels per year, and the brewery is on pace to produce just over 10,000 barrels in 2017. With the additional square footage resulting from this latest expansion, we will be adding three more 120-barrel fermenters and one additional 120-barrel packaging tank in early 2018, which will increase overall production capacity to around 20,000 barrels per year. Eventually, we plan to add several 240-barrel tanks to increase overall production capacity to around 30,000 barrels per year (!).

Don't think that the party palace that is our taproom will get the short end of the stick - our taproom will also undergo changes as part of this latest expansion. We are aiming to elevate the look and feel of the space to reflect our dual regard for design and functionality. While we love our taproom, we weren’t able to fully realize our vision for it when we did our initial build-out. It’s pretty amazing to get a second bite at that apple, and we’re thrilled that this renovation will really tie the taproom into the Bauhaus brand as it was originally intended.

Taproom-goers can expect to see new finishes and lighting for the bar, a new and improved tap configuration as well as revamped menu signage that not only coheres more with the Bauhaus brand but also increases service efficiency. Our planned taproom renovations are designed in large part to improve the overall customer experience in the taproom. To this end, we will be integrating table service so that Haus guests can focus more on having a great time instead of waiting in line for a pint. Taproom renovations are expected to be done just in time for the 2018 Super Bowl.

Thanks for making this a reality, Hauslers. We owe it all to you.

The Bauhaus Family

Last week we stumbled across something that appeared to be...otherworldly.

Signs of alien activity followed...

And finally, on the morning of Monday, October 2nd, an official sighting took place.

After much deliberation, we've spoken to the experts, and we think we FINALLY know what we're dealing with. CROP CIRCUS DOUBLE IPA.

Crop Circus Double IPA features a huge, juicy hop profile typical of New England-style IPAs, but without the pulpy haze. Instead of a bracing hop bitterness, this beer opts to focus on smooth hop flavors and aromas brimming with tropical fruit and fresh citrus that result from the use of multiple cutting edge (alien?) hop technologies, including cryogenically separated hop resins and aromatic oils (aka "cryo hops"). While this hefty DIPA clocks in at a 8.4%, it goes down exceptionally smooth and finishes with only a touch of lingering hop bitterness. To put it succinctly, it's out of this world. Get it before it leaves the planet!

View all documented Crop Circus sightings across the state here:

“The sultan of suds.” “The colossus of quenchers.” “The GREAT Shandino.” For your State Fair pleasure, we bring you The Shandlot Lemon Shandy (4.5% ABV | 15 IBU). This lemony lager concoction will be available only at the Ball Park Cafe at the Minnesota State Fair. We highly recommend adding this refreshing brew to your list, because once this State Fair exclusive is gone, it’s gone for-ev-ver...for-ev-ver...for-ev-ver…

Guten tag! The sun is starting to set just a wee bit earlier these days but we aren't complaining because this just happens to be our favorite time of year. We're thrilled to usher in Oktoberfest season with the 4th annual release of Schwandtoberfest, the brewery’s acclaimed Bavarian-style festbier. At 5.7% ABV and 27 IBUs, the harmony between rich, toasty malt and a crisp, balanced hop profile is what makes this a true Bauhaus masterpiece and an annual customer favorite. With a soft, floral hop aroma of tangerine and orange blossom imparted by Mandarina Bavaria hops and a deep amber orange pour, this beer will have you in lederhosen faster than you can say “Prost”.

The return of Schwandtoberfest is even MORE exciting this year as its release comes just days afterwe took home multiple wins at the 2017 World Beer Awards, an international competition that hosted its final day of judging in London on Friday, August 11th. The competition recognizes style winners at both individual country and world levels. We won three awards at the country level for the U.S.: a GOLD medal for Wonderstuff Neü Bohemian Pilsner in the Czech Pale Lager Category, and overall Country Winner awards for Stargrazer German-Style Schwarzbier in the Dark Lager Category and Wagon Party West Cöast-Style Lager in the Specialty/Steam Beer Category, respectively. Other country-level winners for the U.S. include Deschutes, Odell and Rogue.

Back to S-Fest: Starting this week, Schwandtoberfest will be available in 16-oz. tallboy cans across the Twin Cities, in the taproom and on tap at select establishments starting today. To celebrate in true Bauhaus fashion, the creative (and weird) minds at Bauhaus and Urban Mountain produced this musical gem.

To cap fest season off properly, Bauhaus will be throwing its Fourth Annual Schwandtoberfest celebration on Saturday, September 30th. With multiple beer tents and food vendors, a handful of stellar musical acts and a bevy of special casked beers, it promises to be the most outrageous stein-hoisting day of eating, drinking, singing and dancing yet. Tickets include entry to the fest as well as a commemorative stein (while supplies last) and three beer fills. Tickets can be purchased here!

If you follow us on social media, chances are you're familiar with the way in which we announce new beers and other significant brewery news- through absolutely absurd videos that delight the senses and show off the many creative talents of our staff.

To celebrate our lightest AND darkest beer in our lineup, one that is particularly and surprisingly refreshing in these steamy summer months, we did the thing we know best and wrote a song about it...and then filmed a 70's sitcom intro at the one and only Pachyderm Studio.

Stargrazer, our jet-black yet extremely light Schwarzbier, is truly one-of-a-kind. Roasty, yet light on the palate, this is one dark beer that's oddly perfect for patio and grilling season. But don't just take our word for it.

3 Years of Awesöme

Jul 11, 2017 – 0 Comments

It’s been 3 beautiful years of making delicious beer, throwing mad parties and building one amazing community, so naturally, we’re celebrating with another party. This Saturday, July 15th from 12pm to 11pm, partygoers can expect an all-day onslaught of amusements, music, food and beer!

TUNES: We’ll have DJ Joe Paris rocking the tables up until the evening hours, and then at 5:30pm we’ll hand it over to the incredibly soulful Nooky Jones followed by the dancey grooves of SOLID GOLD. To close out the night, the crowd can expect a face-melting, rawkus set from none other than Haus Band Viva Knievel.

FUN: Ridiculous amusements, including log rolling, inflatables, adult tricycles and a dunk tank, will keep the vibes going all day. Eats from Wyn65 and Butcher Salt will keep you fueled up throughout the party. We’ll even have a small dog park for the pups to hang out in during the event.

WARES: Alchemist Printing Company will be at the Haus screen printing one-day-and-night-only commemorative tees featuring the 3 Years of Awesome logo and there will be a limited number of 3 Years of Awesome keeper glasses for sale as well. Glasses will go for $10 which will include 1 fill, with subsequent fills priced at $5.

BEER: In addition to all 4 Haus beers being on tap, Hairbanger Belgo-American Pale Ale and Slawhammer Kentucky Common will be flowing along with some special casks, including Sky-Five! with grapefruit zest + cardamom and Sky! Five! with loads of citra hops.

To commemorate this milestone for the Bauhaus family & community, the Bauhaus crew worked with Urban Mountain on this stunningly cool video expressing their gratitude through music and color:

Happy July, everyone! One of our favorite non-profit orgs is celebrating their anniversary this month and with that, we are thrilled to announce the return of Still Kickin Summer Pale Ale. After a wildly successful 2016 partnership, we are reuniting to release the incredibly limited beer across the Twin Cities, with 100% of all profits going directly to Still Kickin.

The 2016 Bauhaus/Still Kickin collaboration was a beautiful thing: two like-minded organizations rooted in communities of our own joined forces to do awesome things for awesome people. We channeled efforts through our charitable arm, On the Haus, a facet of the business built to go beyond the beer to help foster a sense of belonging and kinship through outreach in the community. Still Kickin, a non-profit retail brand that supports a new Still Kickin Hero every month through donation-based workouts and sales of their iconic STILL KICKIN shirts and apparel items, worked alongside Bauhaus to bring the collaboration beer to life. More than $15k was raised to benefit multiple Still Kickin Heros in 2016. The dynamic spirit of this awesome partnership is captured here:

We will once again be releasing a limited-time-only Still Kickin beer across the Twin Cities, with all profits going directly to their cause. Still Kickin Summer Pale Ale features classic pale ale maltiness with a touch of sweetness and a bevy of fresh, tropical fruit and clean citrus notes from Galaxy hops. Well balanced and crisp, this is a beer you can enjoy while also knowing you just helped an awesome person get through something awful.

Starting Tuesday, July 25th, the beer will be available in 16 oz cans at select bottle shops across the Twin Cities for an extremely limited time, with 100% of the profits going to Still Kickin. Additionally, Still Kickin will be celebrating their 2nd anniversary with a Still Kickin Turns 2! party at Bauhaus Brew Labs’ taproom on Monday, July 24th from 6-9pm. The event is open to the public and will feature the debut of the Still Kickin beer, special Still Kickin merch and some exciting announcements.
